How do we support families in the adaptation process?

You will learn about our kindergarten policies, visit the classroom, meet the kindergarten staff and administrators. Once you have enrolled your child at Tuti kindergarten you will receive information to support you and your child during the period of adaptation.

  • The daily routine of the group & classroom settings in detail. You can review this with your child and adjust his/her daily routine at home as closely as possible with the kindergarten’s.

  • Parent-child-teacher meeting for the group. You will have the opportunity to meet the other parents and children, as well as your child’s future teachers.

  • A questionnaire regarding your child’s level of development and self-care. Your feedback will give teachers more information and understanding about your child.

  • You will also receive information about what to expect during the first days, weeks, and months.

How do teachers keep you informed about your child’s progress?

  • Individual parent-teacher meetings – according to a set schedule for each group.

  • Weekly, bi-monthly, and monthly reports with details about progress. These reports are more frequent during the beginning of the school year.

  • Information about their daily life in the group (weekly basis), current activities, stories, songs, games.

  • Monthly programme: you can follow the activities and topics they discuss during the day/week/month.

  • Learning goals, social, emotional and physical development, assessment.

  • Once the school year begins, teachers will inform parents of ways in which they can become involved in the daily life of the group.

How to prepare yourself and your child for that step?

  • Have your child practice the kindergarten routines, such as putting on and taking off shoes/slippers, dressing and undressing, putting away toys, using a spoon/fork, rest time in the afternoon.

  •  Encourage discussions at home about the kindergarten. Talk about what they will experience in the kindergarten, including our activities and routines- yoga, music, sleeping time etc. You can read books about starting school, and share your own stories about school.

  • Encourage your child to voice his or her questions about going to kindergarten.

  • Inform the teacher about your child’s abilities, strengths, interests, challenges, as well as health issues or concerns.

  • If possible, create a portfolio (All About Me) with your child’s interests, abilities, and needs. Share the portfolio with the teachers – we can attach a file with ideas about the portfolio.

  • You will be asked to send us a family photo. You are welcome to share photos including siblings, grandparents, pets and other family members.
